The impact of homework

For students in secondary school, homework has a positive impact,  on average + 5 months of progress. Homework that is linked to classroom work tends to be more effective (The Education Endowment Foundation).

Your child will receive regular homework across all subjects to help consildate their learning and make progress. The type of amount of homework will vary depend on the subject, age of the child or the topic studied. For example, students at HKKGS  are expected to spend no more than 10-15 minutes on a daily basis to review their Quran reading and Hifz. Art homework is often related to larger project that is ongoing for 4-8 weeks.

Studies show that homework using digital technology has higher impact. In some subjects, students may be required to complete online homework via SENECA. In maths, most homework is completed via EEDI, a platform that also provides instant feedback and follow up tasks if your child is struggling a particular topic or skill.

Revision and meeting deadlines

During the first weeks of the academic year, your child would have made a revision timetable with the support of her form tutor. Please check and sign you child’s planner every week.

We recommend that students complete their homework on the day it set and not when it is due. This will help them consolidate learning early on when it is fresh in their minds, aiding retention and retrieval. Failure to submit homework on time will result in sanctions, including detentions.
