Helping Your Child Attend School Every Day
Good attendance is extremely important and is associated with improved mental health and wellbeing, better student outcomes, and higher attainment.
Every Day Counts
Recent research shows that even missing one day has negative impact on a student’s achievements.
Evidence shows that the students with the highest attendance throughout their time in school achieve the best GCSE and A Level results. Secondary school pupils who didn’t pass English and maths missed 10 more days over KS4 than those who did.
How we can help
- School culture- Promote a culture of high expectations for behaviour, attendance and sense of community, where every child feels welcomed.
- Communication – Daily updates via the app, phone calls home, newsletters, school website and regular letters and emails on your child’s attendance.
- Support- informal meetings to identify barriers to attendance and offering early help to families.
- Formal approach- Formal meetings with students and parents/carers, target setting, referrals to statutory services, attendance fines and sanctions.
For more details, please read our attendance policy.
We urge all parents to ensure that students attend regularly and on time. Each day a student is absent, equates to 6 lessons of instructions and learning missed and that is difficult to catch up on. Students have 175 days of non-school days and we should ensure all our students attend 190 days of learning. Holiday requests during term time will not be authorised. We thank all parents who make sure their daughters are in school everyday, ready to learn.

Request for leave
You can complete the leave request form via the parent portal. Please note, that these will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.
Punctuality
“By time. Indeed, mankind is in loss. Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience” (Quran 103: 1-3).
If in a school year your child is late every days… | Your child would have lost … | Or they would have missed |
5 minutes | 3 days from school | 19 lessons |
10 minutes | 6 days from school | 38 lessons |
15 minutes | 9.5 days from school | 57 lessons |
20 minutes | 13 days from school | 76 lessons |
30 minutes | 19 days from school | 114 lessons |
Consequences of being late

- Increases stress and upset for the child.
- Can lead to the child feeling embarrassed and singled out.
- Affects the child’s overall confidence.

- Confusion for your child arriving in the middle of an activity.
